... is the largest city in Chile's Magallanes region. This is the region that includes the island and archipelago of Tierra del Fuego, as well as Chile's claims in Antarctica; but Punta Arenas is actually on the South American mainland.
The name Punta Arenas means 'Sandy Point'.
